Head Pupil

At Cwmbran High School, we believe that every learner should have the opportunity to shape their school community. Our Pupil Leadership Structure empowers students to lead, influence change, and take pride in representing their peers. The model brings together a wide range of leadership opportunities while ensuring that pupil voice plays a central role in school improvement.

Our structure is built around three core leadership strands, Values Ambassadors, Form Ambassadors, and Subject Leaders, all supported by our Year 11 Leadership Team. Together, they contribute to our whole‑school decision‑making body, the Senedd.

Values Ambassadors

Our Values Ambassadors drive and promote the school’s core values through a range of projects and activities.

  • A combination of self-selected and targeted learners take part.
  • They work directly with a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • The team leads initiatives that strengthen our school culture, wellbeing, and community engagement.
  • The Year 11 Leadership Team is attached to this strand, offering support and guidance.

Values Ambassadors play an essential role in shaping the ethos of Cwmbran High School by championing what we stand for.

Form Ambassadors

Form Ambassadors ensure that every tutor group has a voice within the school.

  • Each form elects two representatives.
  • Ambassadors work alongside their Head of Year and the Year 11 Leadership Team.
  • They represent the views, ideas, and concerns of their year group.
  • They also work closely with our Year 6 transition team to support learners joining the school.

Form Ambassadors make sure that student voice remains active, inclusive, and representative across all year groups.

Subject Leaders

Subject Leaders represent learners within specific curriculum areas.

  • They support departments in gathering feedback and sharing ideas for improving learning.
  • Subject Leaders promote subject-specific events, clubs, competitions, and enrichment.
  • They collaborate with teachers to celebrate successes and enhance learning experiences.

This role gives learners a direct link to subject development and builds leadership within academic areas.

Sports Leaders

Sitting at the intersection of our leadership strands, Sports Leaders play a key role in promoting physical activity, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.

  • They support school sports events and competitions.
  • Sports Leaders work with PE staff and contribute to whole‑school wellbeing initiatives.
  • They often take on roles as role models and motivators within their year groups.

Year 11 Leadership Team

The Year 11 Leadership Team forms the backbone of the pupil leadership structure.

  • They support and guide the Values, Form, and Subject Leaders.
  • They help to coordinate projects across the school.
  • Members act as ambassadors for Cwmbran High School at events and functions.
  • They also contribute directly to school improvement through the Senedd.

This team represents the pinnacle of student leadership and responsibility.

The Senedd – Our Decision-Making Body

At the centre of our leadership structure is the Senedd, a powerful forum where student leaders work together with stakeholders to influence school-wide decisions.

  • It brings together representatives from all leadership strands.
  • The Senedd listens to pupil voice, discusses key issues, and shapes actions.
  • It ensures that decisions affecting learners are informed by learners.

This collaborative approach strengthens our whole-school community and ensures that the student voice is not only heard, but acted upon.
