LITERACY AND NUMERACY
LLYTHRENNEDD A RHIFEDD
At Cwmbran High School we recognise that high standards in Literacy
and Numeracy are fundamental to our pupils’ success and well-being
both at school and in life beyond. We are continually working to embed
the Teaching and Learning of Literacy and Numeracy Skills across
the curriculum, raising the awareness of their importance among all
members of our community. ‘Literacy’ strands encompass competence
and confidence in reading, writing and within these, will cover elements
such as spelling and vocabulary, speaking and listening skills; in its widest
sense it can be understood to represent the ability to function effectively
in the wider world.
We are committed to working with pupils and their parents/carers
to overcome any existing barriers to literacy ensuring each pupils is
equipped with these skills.
In Wales, The Numeracy Framework describes Numeracy as the
application of Mathematical understanding in daily activities at school,
at home, at work and in the community. Within Numeracy, we expect
children and young people to become accomplished, developing
numerical reasoning, using number skills, using measuring skills and
using data skills.
