The ASD Base at Cwmbran High is a cross county provision supporting 16 students with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder from Torfaen, Newport, Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire.
The Base provides specialist support for students who are able to access the majority of National Curriculum subjects in the mainstream school whilst being able to nurture the personal social skills and Life skills development required to function as an adult.
Our facilities include a purpose built Life Skills Suite and a Sensory Garden with facilities to grow our own produce.
We are an equal opportunities environment that focuses on the need of each individual student.
The Base provides specific ASD training across the authority when required and offers an outreach support to other local schools.
We take the opportunity to raise awareness of autism through links with our local community.
The Base oversees the support of mainstream students with a diagnosis of ASD via the Buffer Base. It also provides training and daily support to all mainstream school staff creating the autism friendly environment that is Cwmbran High.
