Additional Learning Centre (ALC)

The Additional Learning Centre supports mainstream pupils who have a variety of learning, physical and emotional needs. It is the home of the Nurture Room that promotes children’s positive mental health by validating their feelings and emotions. This supports pupils to gain confidence and wellbeing through a bespoke programme.

We have a break and lunchtime club for KS3 pupils who may find being with the whole school overwhelming so it’s a safe and calmer environment to socialise with likeminded pupils.

Cwmbran High School is an all-inclusive school and is fully accommodating to our wheelchair users. The MOVE programme (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) works closely with OT and Physiotherapists so that we can offer movement opportunities to these pupils, opening up and transforming the world around them and creating an accessible, interesting and educational world full of opportunity and choice.

The ALC also host specific interventions groups to support pupils with their academic needs. We are currently working on an ALN Garden to promote outdoor learning.
